Description
Pale birch trunks rise above a dark winter stream in Tinyan Chan’s Winter Serenity. Snow and cool blue distance are punctuated by passages of turquoise, violet, gold and orange, with visible brushwork bringing texture to the trees, water and undergrowth.
Signed lower right, the painting is presented in a substantial gilt-finish frame with a pale fabric liner. At 48.75 inches wide overall, the framed work has a generous presence above a credenza, console or sofa.

A personal inscription
The reverse carries a handwritten dedication and signature, with a date appearing to read February 10, 1996, matching the purchase date on the gallery certificate. Additional handwritten markings identify the painting as Winter Serenity and note its 30 × 40-inch size.
A documented Whistler acquisition
Acquired directly from The Whistler Village Art Gallery in Whistler, British Columbia, the painting retains an unusually complete record of its 1996 purchase.
The gallery’s Certificate of Authenticity identifies the artist as Tinyan, the title as Winter Serenity, the medium as acrylic on canvas and the purchase date as February 10, 1996.
Original purchase records survive alongside a gallery letter dated March 11, 1996 and a period photograph showing the consignor with Tinyan and another guest. The correspondence refers to the enclosed certificate and photograph, connecting the paperwork to the original gallery acquisition.
